According to the latest Canalys report, 348 million smartphones were shipped between July 1st and September 30th. This is 4 million units less than the same period last year. On a quarterly basis, the overall market grew 22%, and Samsung regained 80.2 million shipments as smartphone sales surged 50% in the third quarter due to improved cost management and the launch of several midranges. It was a runaway leader.
Huawei came in second, with Chinese manufacturers managing a significant shipment of 51.7 million despite an ongoing legal battle. Huawei was down compared to last year when it achieved 66.8 million sales over the same period.

The loss of one brand is the profit of another, as Xiaomi came in third with 47.1 million shipments in the third quarter, a significant increase of 45% compared to last year. This makes Xiaomi the fastest producer in the last quarter. Even more striking was Xiaomi’s 88% growth in Europe, with Huawei’s shipments down 25%.
